I'm writing this post on September 15, 2026. Today marks my late son, Sam III's 20th quad birthday. Unless you or someone you love is a quadriplegic, you may have never heard of this kind of birthday. A quad birthday refers to the anniversary of the date of the event that caused the a person to become a quadriplegic.

Calling this day one of mixed emotions is an understatement. Though sadness predominates, remembrances of happy experiences provide a measure of comfort.

Even more, I'm ceaselessly amazed to see the powerful ways in which God works good through tragedy to bring forth blessings.

Happy Quad Birthday, Sam III!

A spinal cord injury confined my son, Sam III, to his bed. As his father, I felt his pain. The day he received a wheelchair, his life changed. No longer confined to his bed, the wheelchair gave him back his mobility and dignity. Sam III got his life back.
